Evey day the the pace of our lives seems to get faster and faster, leaving less time for doing things we actually like to do or, perhaps, should do to improve our health. Exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle but just how are you supposed to fit it in with everything else you have to do?
Here are fours examples of how you can fit exercise into your schedule with very few changes.
1. Start your day 30 minutes earlier and use 20 minutes of that time for exercise. It can be a brisk walk around the block, some time on the treadmill or working out with one of those exercise tapes or DVDs you bought and don’t use anymore. If you can do this three times a week you have just added an hour of exercise time to your schedule for that week.
2. You can manage to get some exercise at work as well. Going to or coming from work, you can find a way to walk more than you usually do by taking the bus and getting of a few stops away. If you work in an office tower, take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you work on the 50th floor you could get off on floor 45 and walk up the last 5 flights. You could also take 30 minutes of your lunch and go for a brisk walk.
3. Do exercises at your desk. You could keep some small weights in your office and lift them when you are on the phone. You can do leg exercises while sitting at your desk and if you use some ankle weights, you can add resistance easily, increasing the benefit.
4. When you spend time with your family, especially your kids, make it an active time. Get on your bike and ride around the neighbourhood with them, go swimming with them during family time at the pool, grab the frizbee and play with them in the park.
Working exercise into your day can be as simple as making a change to something you already do so you don’t have to find a lot of extra time in your day. I’m sure you can think of small changes you can make in how you do your daily tasks that can add to your
overall fitness. As you can see from the above examples, you don’t have to go to the gym or have expensive exercise equipment at home to keep yourself fit.
