“Laughter is the best medicine” is a well know saying but what you may not know is that it is really true.
In addition to improving your mood, a good laugh has been associated with reducing the levels of stress hormones (cortisol for example) in your body. Elevated levels of these hormones have been associated with high blood levels of triglycerides as well as some inflammatory conditions.
A really good belly laugh seems to be beneficial to the productions of antibodies and can help reduce stress and your blood pressure.
Did you know that children laugh an average of 400 times a day while adults laught an average of only 15 times a day? Is it any wonder adults seem to be more affected by stress. Play time for adults is important so make some time in your day to have fun. You might just be surprised at the difference it makes.
If you find yourself in a bad mood, try sitting down to watch a light-hearted comedy instead of the news. Odds are you will feel better at the end of the movie.
